What do you think is the main problem with movies today?

I always tried to put my hand on why movies don’t seem like they hit like used to anymore

I been thinking on this.. I think the thing that fucks movies up the most now is it seems like they just go ahead and put too much shit in the trailers

Watch a trailer and you know exactly what direction the movie is gonna go

The rise of the internet.. we have easy access to all types weird information/people/scenarios.. nothing seems out of reach, nothing seems impossible. It’s a real “been there, done that” type of world now.

& Specifically “reality” media. Weather it be TV, YouTube, IG, TikTok, Twitter

People crave “authenticity” and “relatability” now. “Regular” people have access to their favourite celebs doing real things, and are more into that.

Also streaming services like Netflix really just killed the movie experience. We used to be excited going to the movies to watch a move like Wedding Crashers or 40 year old Virgin. Now a days it would be a straight to Prime/Netflix etc thing.

The creativity is pretty much dead. So many people are either worried about backlash from subject matter or from casting the wrong person or not hitting big in the box office that they don’t even bother anymore. Just sign up for some reboot or 40 year too late sequel and get a payday. I don’t remember the last time anyones simple passion project was being hyped.

I miss the old rom-coms, crime dramas, action dramas, thrillers, etc. I miss those old raunchy Judd Apatow comedies and the who-dunits. I don’t remember the last time I seen a good thriller movie. Even if there was a good movie out there that I haven’t seen I probably never heard about it because all the media outlets are flooded by they hype of the next superhero movie that’s coming out.

Predictable story lines, you can predict where the movie is going very early on. Emphasis on special effects to mask poor writing and acting. Too many prequels and sequels not enough original new ideas.
