You can still do that. Record it on the go then redo it and talk more in depth later. Yes some things can be improv but a lot of these podcasters have scripts they tend to follow and bullet points they make sure to hit.

At work I keep one airpod in and play something in it usually a podcast or a book or something

Sometimes I’ll be listening to something but not really listening if you know what I mean.. that’s what I meant by background noise

Yeah podcasts way too unfiltered to play all out in the open lol
