But if I can tell somebody's outward behavior is out of step with the internal, whatever they say or do is meaningless as fuck to me.

The thing for me is it seems ultimately everyones selfiish
Its not that some are and some arent. Theres definitely a spectrum, but everyones on it. So i cant look down on others too much when we all have the same problem fundamentally.
When i do spot someone whos overtly way past the center line in either direction i do tend to avoid those folks

that's a weird way to go about life
don't worry about being used, worry about being useless
also. being the giving/wearing your heart on your sleeve type gives you more power over a situation than being paranoid about ulterior motives.
when you are open, and not worried about the outcome - people usually tell on themselves
and then you can make a precise decision about where they belong in your life + you've done good no matter what. which has nothing to do with others, and everything to do with you. it feels good being good. for yourself
