Most people use their own insurance on their CC, or buy online insurance. Out of 3 maybe 1 will use our insurance, and 9/10 chances that all vehicles won’t be a total loss.. it’ll be like a bumper smash/scrape, side swipe or chip on the windshield.

So not a single soul, that’s the damage department problem to make sure insurance pays up
Exactly so…

If a renter fucks up a vehicle and you need their credit card company or online insurer to pay up, you are at the mercy of their claim approval. If they deny the claim or stall payment, your shit sits on the lot not making you any bread while eating carrying costs, right?

Having a damage department deal with that doesn't mean you have absolute autonomy. It means your entire business model is tethered to outside financial institutions and risk management.

Just because you delegated the task does not mean you ain’t answering to someone. The insurance company gets to decide whether that car gets paid out and put back on the road, not you.

And even if they are just bumps and scrapes, when you decide to sell them off, now you gotta sell them for less than you would if they didn’t have those bumps and scrapes right? That’s more revenue being impacted downstream due to elements you’ll never be able to fully control. That’s the point I’m making.

This doesn’t prove anything about autonomy / agency vs being an employee / owner operator.

“Being at the mercy”, as you describe, would be us being unable to operate, live, pay ourselves etc because a car is scraped or has a chipped windshield.

Which is absolutely false, there are 100s of claims pending, and our daily operations and overhead doesn’t depend on an insurance company approving a cheque. Multiple cheques get approved daily. That’s just amateur talk.

In this particular business, there are certain costs you swallow, you have safety nets for that, and to the gen pop who haven’t never operated something on such a large scale personally, it seems like the end of the world and “being” at the mercy of insurance companies.

Because it’s a rotation circle with revenue coming from every which way, it’s just part of the operating cost, and not devastating. Waiting is not being at the mercy, it’s just part of the game, especially while you’re making bank in multiple other ways.

It’s just the extremely high risk business we are in.

We don’t have to ask a random 23 yr old HR associate to go on vacation, and then come back with a pile of work.

Thats the difference here
Thank you for proving that my operational argument holds up.

We are now back to the PTO stuff - that is all psychological. The stakes are still present. You don’t have to ask for PTO, but if something goes wrong, you can’t stay in bed and not go to work either. PTO denied?

Same hamster wheel.

You tried to describe an aspect of my work, and I corrected you.

What does that have to do with the difference between being an employee vs a business owner?

If you are content with working in corporate, that’s on you.

This life ain’t for everyone, if so, everyone would have full control of their lives and not rent out their autonomy to a company that’ll replace you in a second.

If someone had the choice of building generational wealth and equity.. vs asking HR for 2 days off to go to a funeral and you gotta be back on Monday.. I’d be surprised if they chose the latter.

Being employed, is not the same as being an owner-operator. Not even in the slightest. It’s the same to you because you probably never felt the difference. I’ve worked in corporate, and I was raised in a high level family business, that has grown year by year.

I’ve lived the difference.

People are holding on for their dear lives trying not to get fired in corperate America right now. People who’ve “mattered”, people with children and families, people who have sacrificed their time with family, their health, their well being for these corporations. It’s literally World World 3 over there when it comes to corporate.

God forbid a owner operator is mopping the floors of his little Subway franchise, not having to deal with any of that shit because he chose autonomy

Same pay btw

I wonder what is more risky

Again, you’re talking about feelings, which I already acknowledged earlier.

It doesn’t change simple economics. Your perceived autonomy doesn’t make you immune.

All that other shit doesn’t matter.

If by immune, you mean being the bitch of some corporation. Yes, definitely immune to that.

This all started when you started bragging about 45 days of PTO you couldn’t take. Remember that.

i used to drink waaay too much in HS and for a few years after, not like alcoholic frequency, only 2x a week. But when i did i would pound 15 beer, a half bottle of whiskey, and smoke a bunch of weed. Thats what id regularily bring to parties and finish and leave still being able to talk lol... Then id go to bed at like 4am, sleep to 6am, be at work by 630am for a 8-9hour shift. And then do it all again that night. I dont miss that at all hahah. It was awful working 8hrs hungover as hell and on 2hrs of sleep.

I drank less alcohol in my college years. Still drank but wasnt pounding 15 cold ones and a half bottle of booze.

i havent really binge drank since my mid 30s. And nowadays if i do drink, almost never drink more than 3-4 beer over as many hours
